The Office of Gift Planning (OGP) is responsible for managing the administration of all life-income and bequest gifts made to MIT. OGP maintains gift acceptance policies, and creates marketing and promotional materials designed to educate and promote planned gifts that are crucial to the capital campaign. For FY14, planned gifts accounted for $12.3 million dollars.

The Office of Gift Planning works closely with the Office of Individual Giving, the Office of Philanthropic Partnerships, the Alumni Association, and the School Development Offices to provide donors with technical expertise on how best to plan for their financial future through the use of life-income gifts. OGP offers a variety of vehicles that enable donors to support their desired designation, while also serving as a healthy investment within their portfolio. These gifts also allow for flexibility, with a variety of funding options to suit an individual’s unique circumstances. Planned gifts provide sizable income, gift and estate tax deductions, as well as favorable capital gains treatment, making them the ideal gift for those looking to achieve their personal financial goals or round out their estate planning. These gifts allow donors to leave a legacy while simultaneously benefiting themselves and the Institute.

In addition to identifying, cultivating, and soliciting planned gifts, OGP is responsible for the stewarding of all planned gifts and bequest donors. Through the use of the Katharine Dexter McCormick Society, the Office of Gift Planning ensures that each donor is recognized and honored for their generosity, and continues to stay connected with the Institute through their lifetime.
